Test Info and Protocols

Illustration of the wide range of species the laboratory performs analyses on, e.g. small and large animals, exotics, zoo and wildlife.

The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory has extensive experience in performing analyses on a wide range of species. We routinely perform analyses on samples from dogs, cats, horses, cattle, goats, and sheep as well as on mice, rats, and rabbits. Furthermore, the laboratory offers analyses of samples from several other exotic species, e.g. fish, birds, reptiles etc.

We can acquire assays and necessary reagents from all over the world, compatible with the laboratory equipment. For these types of special analyses, please contact laboratory coordinator Claus Stjernegaard.

Reference Values

The laboratory has calculated reference intervals for dogs, cats and horses. The values are based on a wide selection of different breeds, sex and age within each species.

For other species, e.g. cattle, sheep and goats, the laboratory uses reference intervals provided by the literature, such as Schalm's Veterinary Hematology 5th edition and Clinical Examination of Farm Animals (Peter G.G. Jackson, Peter D. Cockcroft, 2002).
